Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale: Smash Bros. Clone or Not?

People have been highly critical of Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, calling it just Sony's version of Super Smash. Recent looks at the game showed, that despite displaying Sony's most popular characters as Nintendo did with Smash, it is a very different game.

Smash was a king of the hill type game, where players attempted to hit other players off the stage with a variety of moves. Each move causing the player to fly farther as damage accumulated. Battle Royale instead is an arena fighter. You earn points by landing special attacks, which require AP. You recieve two points for every special attack landed, and lose one for every death. Having the most points at the end of the round means you win.

AP points fill a meter over time, and there are 3 tiers to the meter, each with tier being it's own special attack. Level 3 attacks are obviously the most powerful, but can sometimes take awhile to get. Characters fill their meters at different rates, the slower it fills, the more powerful the attack will be. Some will gain fast, but it will result in a hard to land attack.

The game does boast some big name characters, such as Jak and Daxter, Nathan Drake, Kratos, Heihachi, and Sly Cooper, and there are many other great characters on the roster. As the release date draws closer, more and more Smash comparisons will rise, but I believe when the game comes out people will realize that they are two completely different games.
